The CA Handgun Roster, Explained Like a Human

If you've ever asked why you can't just buy the newest Glock in California, the answer is the Roster of Certified Handguns. New semiauto models must pass drop-safety testing and include specific features before a dealer can sell them new-in-box here — which is why the latest generations often aren't on dealer shelves.

But "not on the roster" doesn't always mean "impossible." Used off-roster handguns can move between Californians through private-party transfers at a dealer like us, and certain exemptions exist. There's often a legal path — it just runs through paperwork most buyers don't know about.

Every handgun we sell or transfer goes through DROS, the background check, and California's 10-day wait. Bring a REAL ID or CA driver's license, proof of residency for handguns, and a Firearm Safety Certificate — you can take the FSC test right at our counter.
